Mackmyra Sommartid (Review)

Mackmyra Sommartid (Swedish Svensk Single Malt Whisky Dram Tasting Notes BarleyMania)

Okay, it is getting warmer and sunnier outside, the days are getting brighter and longer. So I felt like drinking a summer whisky to put a bit of the sunshine, which I enjoyed during my lunch break, into my glass. Mackmyra does not only have a wide core range of delicious whiskies, but they also launch seasonal bottlings on a regular basis. Often, these limited editions have special finishes. Sommartid is the Swedish word for summertime and this is exactly what you get when you fill this whisky into your glass. It is ripened in barrels made of Swedish and American oak, which previously held cloudberry wine. A rather unusual finish for a whisky, but this is what makes the Sommartid so special and gives the whisky its smooth, fruity character. This is the perfect summer dram – or the whisky you want to drink when you are already in a summer mood by the beginning of spring.

Eye: Light gold that reminds you of a warm Swedish summer day. In other words: liquid sunlight.
Nose: Can you smell the summer breeze? A mixture of tropical and domestic fruits including apricots, peaches, apples, pears and even some berries. All these fruity notes are accompanied by vanilla, honey and oak.
Palate: A delicious fruit salad with lots of yellow fruits doused with a honey and vanilla sauce. But then there are also spicy and oaky notes that give the whisky a slightly bitter touch, which is not uncomfortable at all. In the end there might even be a hint of licorice.
Finish: Medium long with exotic fruits, oak and some dryness.
