Admittedly, I have not been super-fast with my reviews for these three special releases from DeinWhisky.de. Before I finally poured their contents into a glass and savored them, the wee sample bottles waited in my drawer for quite a few weeks. But now I finally wrote down my tasting notes for this mouthwatering trio. In detail, we have here a 12-year-old Secret Speyside with a PX finish released in cooperation with Ferg & Harris, a 13-year-old Tomatin distillery bottling with a Tempranillo red wine finish, and a 5-year-old Kentucky Straight Bourbon from New Riff Distilling. If these sound worth checking out for you, I have good news: all three bottles are still available exclusively in the DeinWhisky.de webshop!

Secret Speyside 2010/2022 by Ferg & Harris for DeinWhisky.de
(Single Malt Scotch Whisky • PX finish • 55.7% • Small batch)
This mysterious 12 Years Old starts off with a typical, sherry-laden Speyside nose: spicy, fruity, chocolatey, woody, and slightly dry-ish. The different scents are nicely interwoven and not bar of a certain complexity. The taste is rich and big with plums, raisins, strawberries, rum truffles, and oak – coated in a fine layer of cinnamon and dripped upon with grated grapefruit peel. The mouthfeel is oily and creamy with a good balance and just a bit of cask strength oomph. The mid-length finish has cherries, pears, apricots, gingerbread cookies, and several spoonfuls of chocolate mousse. Together, DeinWhisky.de and Ferg & Harris have released a great whisky here, which impressively underlines the fact that Speyside usually gives life to mighty fine drams!
Tomatin 2009/2022 Tempranillo Cask for DeinWhisky.de
(Single Malt Scotch Whisky • Red wine finish • 59.2% • 294 bottles)
Indie bottler DeinWhisky.de and Scotch distillery Tomatin have a great history together. I remember their PX-matured Vintage 1999 to be absolutely sublime. And this 13 Years Old from a Tempranillo cask is a really nice one, too. It starts off with a slightly sour nose (lemon zest, orange squeeze, unripe plums) that becomes gradually sweeter with time (vanilla crescents, icong sugar, candied ginger). The first flavors to unfold on the tongue are garden fruits, cookie crumbles, half-sweet spices, and milk coffee. Later, citrusy notes chime in, too. As do sweet undertones. The high strength is noticeable, but not overwhelming – both on the tongue and in the throat, where this Tomatin 13yo leaves a dry and spicy finish full of lemon zest, pineapple chunk, and walnut cake.
New Riff 2017/2022 for DeinWhisky.de
(Kentucky Straight Bourbon • Barrel • 55.2% • 208 bottles)
A leather saddle rubbed with wild honey – that’s the first smell I register in this special drop, which marks the first single barrel release from New Riff Distilling in the United States. When I keep sniffing, I sense all kinds of bright aromas appearing one after one: camomile blossoms, banana chips, sugared cookies, and quince jelly. The taste is sweet and savory. And also a wee bit fresh. The offered flavors, which later culminate in a smooth, mid-long aftertaste, include crunchy pears with waxy peel as well as milk-soaked cereals, ground macadamias, runny caramel sauce, fresh-baked butter cake, dried sage leaves, and differing fruits of yellow colors.
