A long time ago, in seventeen eighty-five,
The great Rabbie Burns a poem did write.
It was an ode to a rodent – shy and afraid,
That stoically braved an unfortunate fate.

Even today, after centuries have passed,
“To a mouse” is still read and cherished and loved,
To such an extent, that lo’ and behold,
Douglas Laing paid it homage in liquid gold.

Inspired by the old and heart-warming lines,
The Glasgow-based blenders a whisky designed.
Called “Timorous Beastie” after the little pal,
With whom through the poem in love we all fell.

From the tube and the label, both looking hot,
The mouse says “hello” to us thirsty lot.
So we pour us a dram and enjoy as we should,
A Scotch from the Highlands, fruity and good.
