On June 1st, Jura will host the next round of their annual whisky festival, the frolicsome Tastival. This means that we can not only look forward to super-fun festivities at the distillery (and hopefully also other locations across the globe), but also to a new special bottling. While Jura has not yet shared any hints as to what kinda whisky this might be, I am confident that it will be awesome. Why? Because their last festival edition, the Tastival 2016, is damn awesome as well! Triple-matured in three different kinds of sherry casks (Palomino Fino, Amoroso and Apostoles), this sumptuous sip has a wonderful fruitiness and an astounding depth. It highlights a differing facet in the diverse style of the secluded seaside distillery and marks a perfect addition to any whisky collection’s sherry or island compartment.

Eye: Walnut brown with a reddish shimmer.
Nose: Sweet and slightly sugary with a tad of fruit acid. Warm carrot cake and roasted chestnuts meet burnt brittle and fresh-peeled oranges.
Palate: A many-faceted, sherry-laden island malt. Slightly oily in the mouth, Jura’s Tastival bottling from 2016 is full of delicious vanilla and pomegranate flavours as well as the afore-mentioned brittle and orange notes. Further back, we also find ginger and clove.
Finish: Long, striking and worthy of the annual special edition of a distillery as merited as Jura. Expect this luscious dram to unleash a flood of malt, spice and fruit before it bids adieu.
