During my last stay in Berlin I visited the famous whisky pub Offside in the district of Wedding. Not only did I have a few very nice whiskies there, but I also persuaded the barkeeper to pass the almost-empty bottle of this Springbank 13yo on to me alongside with the dram I ordered. When I finally tried it at home, I really enjoyed the combination of a classic Springbank whisky and a fresh rum cask. While you recognize the rum cask all the time, it is never too dominant and thus the Springbank character is never varnished. Unfortunately, it is very hard to get your hands on a bottle of this whisky these days as it was originally released back in 2013 as a limited single cask bottling. Another fun fact: The beautiful comic label of the bottle was designed by German artist, musician, movie star and dubbing actor Ben Gash, who is the German voice of – among others – Charlie Sheen, Keanu Reeves and David Duchovny.

Eye: Light yellow and gold.
Nose: This dram welcomes you with a slight smokiness and a beautiful fruity mixture with apples, pears and limes. A pleasant sweetness and Jamaica rum notes shine through, but they are not too dominant.
Palate: A very powerful whisky full of yellow fruits like apples and mangoes plus a distinct saltiness and a hint of smoke. Although the rum does not dominate the whisky, its influence is of course noticeable. It adds a sweet and exotic aroma.
Finish: The finish is medium long and the rum seems to get more into the foreground now. Besides this, a combination of sugar and salt stays on your tongue for quite some time.
