A wise man once said: “Two things are infinite: the universe and the number of top-quality bottlings from The GlenAllachie; and I’m not sure about the former.” As bold as this statement might seem, I cannot help but second it. It is absolutely marvelous to see (and taste) how the team around industry veteran Billy Walker releases one outstanding whisky after the other. Today, I have the pleasure of introducing you to two more such pours. The first is a 13-year-old single cask release from a new indie bottler called The Uncharted Whisky Co., whose products are distributed by DeinWhisky.de here in Germany. If all of their releases are as good and unique as this one, they will certainly give us a lot of joy in the future! The second is a recently released original bottling from The GlenAllachie, namely the 10 Years Old Cask Strength. It packs a good punch, yet it also has the distillery’s signature sweetness and complexity. So much for the introduction. If you are curious to learn more about these two wonderful Speyside malts, please read on!

The GlenAllachie 13yo “This charming dram” by The Uncharted Whisky Co.
(Single Malt Scotch Whisky • Speyside • 1st-fill Sherry Butt • 48%)
This whisky has gotten nothing but praise from the bloggers who were a bit quicker with their reviews than I. So I cannot help but be a little pre-influenced here. But even if that was not the case, I would still be amazed! With this 13-year-old GlenAllachie lovingly labeled “This charming dram”, new indie bottler The Uncharted Whisky Co. has made a stunning first impression. A full maturation in a first fill sherry butt has given this sumptuous Speysider a beautiful, inviting nose: Creamy vanilla, intense honey and sweet toffee form the basis. Brown bananas and soft peaches add a chunky-kinda fruitiness. Further back, cocktail cherries and apple slices add a dripping juiciness to the otherwise sturdy bouquet. A spoonful of cinnamon rounds the whole thing off in a most delicate way! The first sip is nothing short of fantastic, too. Here, a palate-pleasing sweetness mingles with a bright fruitiness. Bee sting cake, icing sugar and jelly drops on the one side; apricot, honeydew melon and banana on the other. Again, juicy notes join in after a while. They appear in the form of tangerine and strawberry. The smooth finish instantly has me craving for more. It tastes of strawberry sundae, fruit-filled cupcake, caramelized pear and all sorts of berries with a good portion of sugar on top. To me, this is an absolute highlight – well done, The GlenAllachie. Well done, The Uncharted Whisky Co. Well done, DeinWhisky.de!
The GlenAllachie 10yo Cask Strength
(Single Malt Scotch Whisky • Speyside • Oak casks • 55.9%)
A beautiful chestnut color attracts the eye, while a thick and heavy scent pleases the nostrils: Gooey caramel, burnt almonds, fluffy honey cake and a fresh splash of orange juice make the nosing of The GlenAllachie’s 10 Years Old CS a total blast! After a short while, these very entertaining smells are joined by an ounce of Christmas spice and a bit of shiny oak. On the tongue, the high strength of 55.9 per cent shows; it places a myriad of fun little sparks in the mouth. In regard to taste, the able-bodied spirit offers nuts, oranges and brown sugar as well as beeswax, wood and grapes. Additionally, I get some green tea and sweetened pomelo, too. The finish is ongoing and dryish with apple puree, lemon zest, spearmint gum and English marmalade. Here, I feels as if the virgin oak casks – which were used alongside Oloroso, PX and Rioja barrels – would step forth and make themselves known (even though master blender Billy Walker and his team did not use too many of them). All those looking for a complex yet palatable Speysider in cask strength, which comes with an age statement, an affordable price tag and a ton of flavor: Here’s one very tasty whisky for you to check out!
