Scallywag Easter Edition by Douglas Laing (Review)

Scallywag Easter Edition by Douglas Laing (Remarkable Malts Speyside Blended Scotch Whisky Limited Tasting Notes BarleyMania)

Douglas Laing’s furry little friend Scallywag loves the holidays. Last December, he put on a red-glowing Rudolph’s nose and celebrated the festive season with a strictly limited Christmas Edition. And this April, he sports fake rabbit’s ears and delights us with an exclusive Easter bottling only available on the German market. While I missed out on the X-mas dram, I luckily scored a bottle of the Easter whisky (of which only 300 units were produced). True to its Speyside heritage, the Scallywag is a rich blend mainly characterized by its tantalizing interplay of fruity and spicy notes. This particular expression, however, also bursts with chocolate! If you managed to get hold of a bottle, you can skip the cocoa eggs and nougat bunnies this year. Instead, pour yourself a dram of the Scallywag Easter Edition and enjoy your much-desired dose of chocolate in liquid form!

Eye: Ginger with a golden shimmer.
Nose: As a kid, my mother often made me sandwiches with Nutella and curd – a somewhat slushy but also very tasty combination. The fresh and creamy scent of the Scallywag Easter Edition raises fond memories of these yummy snacks.
Palate: Befittingly for an Easter dram, this whisky’s predominant flavor is tender milk chocolate. In addition, I also find notes of yoghurt, raspberry and almonds as well as a subtle hint of spice.
Finish: Quite long and savoury. Towards the end, the Scallywag Easter Edition unfolds a pleasant bitterness, as if the milk chocolate had shifted into dark chocolate.
