Cambus 25yo by The Whisky Chamber (Review)

Cambus 25yo by The Whisky Chamber (Single Cask Grain Scotch Whisky Sherry Tasting Notes BarleyMania)

Not sure about you guys, but I tend to become a little reckless after a full evening of dramming at a whisky gathering. So before I left Kiel Whisky Fair in early May of this year, I went to the booth of The Whisky Chamber and bought this Cambus 25yo without even trying it. After all, there was a sign next to the bottles that read “Liquid Tiramisu” and I figured I could not go wrong with a whisky that (hopefully) fitted such a mouthwatering description. Okay, I admit… I embellished my story a little. Cause even though I did indeed buy this bottle blindly, it was not entirely without reasoning. On the one hand, I had already planned for quite some time to buy a grain whisky at the fair. And on the other hand, I had also tried various other Cambus expressions before. So I did at least have an idea of what I was about to get. Also, once I had made my purchase, I was offered a complimentary dram of said whisky from the fine gentlemen operating the booth. And thankfully their beautiful Cambus 25yo was exactly what I had hoped for. Bursting with chocolate, I had a hard time believing that this delicious single cask bottling originated from the defunct Cambus Distillery rather than Willy Wonka’s fabled chocolate factory!

Eye: Wheat-colored with darkish strains and a discreet reddish glow.
Nose: Strong and in-your-face with a good dose of alcohol breaking through a delicate tapestry of cocoa powder, mascarpone, orange peel and shortbread. Let it breathe for a couple of minutes and the alcohol withdraws while the sweetness advances.
Palate: The good people of The Whisky Chamber totally nailed it when they described this whisky as “liquid tiramisu”. As soon as this well-aged grain hits your tongue, your entire mouth is filled with chocolate. In addition, there is also whipped cream, cappuccino, Brazil nut and caramel syrup.
Finish: Medium long and very yummy. As a parting gift, The Whisky Chamber’s precious Cambus 25yo leaves you with creamy Belgian chocolate confectionery of various shapes and shades.
