Having recorded double digit growth in the past three years and doubled its size in the last four years, Glasgow-based bottlers and blenders Douglas Laing & Co. are ready to take their business to the next level and announce “the biggest news in [their] 70 year history”: On July 28 the company behind the Old Particular single casks and the Remarkable Malts blended malts revealed plans to build its own malt whisky distillery – along with new headquarters, warehouses and a bottling complex – on the banks of the river Clyde in Glasgow!
Based in the district of Govan in city’s south-west, the new distillery will enable Douglas Laing to not only operate as an independent bottler, but also to “become a distiller, owning the production process from start to finish [and produce] considerably more than 100,000 litres of alcohol per annum”. Douglas Laing expects the “ambitious and innovative” £10.7 million project, which will be party financed with private captial and partly backed by governmental funding, to boost their work force from 22 to 60 employees within the next years.
