Yeah, yeah, yeah! It is Barleyversary time again! For me, this means that I have now three full years of whisk(e)y blogging on my rap sheet. For you, this means another chance to win amazing bottles! In good ol’ BarleyMania tradition, the latter got sponsored by some of my dearest friends within the industry – namely Douglas Laing from Scotland, Fary Lochan from Denmark and Weinquelle Lühmann from Germany. To learn more about the prizes and how to win them, check out the instructions and introductions below. And once you are done, leave a comment and jump into the drawing pool!

Douglas Laing’s Scallywag
(sponsored by Douglas Laing)
Scallywag is the beautifully sherried Speyside expression of Douglas Laing’s award-winning range of blended malts, The Remarkable Regional Malt. It is composed, among others, from whiskies distilled at The Macallan, Mortlach and Glenrothes. According to the official tasting notes, Scallywag “reveals an explosion of rich, dark fruits, chocolate and spice interwoven with late vanilla”. Thanks to the lovely people at Douglas Laing, one lucky reader of BarleyMania will soon be able to try this sumptuous sip for themselves. Slainte woof!
Fary Lochan Distillery Edition Batch 02
(sponsored by Fary Lochan)
Recently, Fary Lochan from Denmark gained a lot of extra recognition as the first distillery from the Nordics to be bottled by The Scotch Malt Whisky Society. While their debut on the indie circuit was indeed spectacular, their original releases are just as good. Wanna find out for yourself? Then keep your fingers crossed that you will be drawn as the winner of the Fary Lochan Distillery Edition Batch 02. It is five years old, drawn from an oloroso hogshead and limited to 1,106 bottles à 200ml. A small but all-the-more precious jewel!
Kilchoman 12yo Single Cask
(sponsored by Weinquelle Lühmann)
This year, my favorite whisky and spirits retailer Weinquelle Lühmann celebrated its 100th anniversary! To do so accordingly, they not only organized a number of special events in the Hamburg area, but also released an exclusive single cask whisky bottling. The 12-year-old Kilchoman they picked for this occasion is embodies everything that Islay’s farm distillery is famous for: Bold, smoky and complex in equal shares, it combines a lovely citrus freshness with a yummy caramel sweetness and a delightful nutmeg spiciness. Unsurprisingly, this fabulous whisky sold out pretty quickly. But one bottle is still up for grabs as a Barleyversary ’19 prize!

Happy 3rd Birthday Barleymania!
I was going to post a photo of what I’ll be raising tonight on your Blog-Birthday-Bash, but I can’t.
However, as I know you like a certain Dram, I will be raising the Timerous Beastie 40 y/o (I still have 2x 2cl left!)
Enjoy, and keep going strong!
Slàinte mhath 🥃

Happy birthday Barleymania. If I had to choose one of the above prizes to sip and toast the birthday celebrations I would say the Kilchoman 12yo Single Cask , or from my own collection probably a Bruichladdich 20yo third edition 46%

Drei Jahre – Glückwunsch. Wenn man bedenkt, wieviel Arbeit drin steckt und was die Leber in der Zeit alles verarbeiten musste, ist das eine respektable Leistung.

I would like to have them all! But you know me, DL has always been my favorite, I would choose the Scallywag. :)

Happy Anniversary! Oh, these all look so good. I’d take Scallywag for the name alone, but the Danish Fary Lochan would be appropriate to toast with, being a cultural bridge.

Hey unglaublich, drei Jahre schon!

Congrats my friend! How quick time is passing by… unbelievable. 3 wonderfully tasty years with BarleyMania! And this is hopefully just the beginning;-). I’ll raise my cup filled with a revitalizing peated hot toddy today #männergrippe and when this flue is gone … it should be a remarkable regional malts dram … perhaps Scallywag 13! Cheers and all the best!

Congratulations! Personally, Kilchoman all the way. Love their business model. Loved their distillery exclusive bottle. Need to go back to grab another, but I’ll be happy with winning this bottle instead.

Hey Tobi,

I have never tried the Kilchoman single cask! nor the Distillery Edition from Fary Lochan (though I am a minor shareholder with them) :-).
tough, tough, tough question! I sip the Fary Lochan Distillery Edition :).
A toast from Denmark!

Happy Barleyversary! I would love to try them all, but if I had to pick today I suppose the Fary Lochan would be the one after their recent achievement with SMWS. I wouldn’t be opposed to a lille tur down to Hamburg to try them together :-) It’s quite a nice city afterall.
