Following up on my recent review of Batch One of FABLE Whisky’s delicate Blended Malt Scotch Whisky, I have now also written tasting notes for Batch Two. It constitutes a great addition to the range – especially due to the fact that it has a totally different character than Batch One. To a big extend that is because Batch Two’s recipe contains a proportion of peated Islay whisky from Caol Ila Distillery, which makes the dram noticeably more fumy, smoky, and dark. If I interpreted the label correctly (it is quite telling), the other malts used by FABLE’s talented blenders all come from Speyside; they provide brighter notes such as juicy fruits or baked goods. In total, the well-chosen and well-executed mix of malts makes for a great tasting experience in the course of which this Blended Malt Scotch Whisky presents itself both palatable and versatile. With Batch One, FABLE have shown that they are a force to be reckoned with in the blending game. With Batch Two, they have further underlined this notion!

Eye: Just a touch of color. 
Nose: Lemony, ashy, bacony – with a delicate sweetness underneath. The Caol Ila, which is one of the lead malts here, certainly left its mark on this dram. It added a greasy BBQ smoke note to the otherwise fruity, fresh, and frizzy nose.
Palate: The liquid weighs heavy and full on the tongue. It brims with strong flavors of soft apples, baked plums, dried bananas, lemon-flavored butter milk, roasted duck breast, and cooled-off cigarette. Fruit, meat, cream, and smoke … they all fall together here in a yummy way.
Finish: The aftertaste is of good length and variety. It goes from delicately smoky to dominantly sweet, then from autumnally fruity to mouth-coatingly creamy. Once they have enjoyed their brief moments in the limelight, the individual notes mingle to form a nice and pleasing whole.
