Exactly one week ago, Tobi introduced you to the three “exotic” releases of North Star Spirits’ recently released series 002, namely a blend, a bourbon and a sherry. This week we got our hands on a trio of their new single cask Scotch whiskies. (more…)

Ireland Tasting at Cadenhead’s Whisky Market (Event)
Ever since I attended a Cadenhead masterclass at this year’s edition of Kiel Whisky Fair, I have been looking forward to my next trip to Berlin – the location of one of the two stores that Scotland’s oldest independent bottler operates in Germany. (more…)
News From Eire – Tasting at Der Zigarrenmacher (Event)
A few months ago I got to know Stefan Bohn when he hosted an Arran tasting at this year’s Hamburg-based whisky fair Hanse Spirit. Shortly after, I found out that he also offers regular tastings in a much cosier environment, namely Der Zigarrenmacher in Hamburg-Altona. This month, Stefan welcomed a wee round of eight guests to a tasting focusing on Irish Whiskey. The gathering took place in a small and very homely room, where water, bread and chocolate were readily prepared for everyone. Upon entering the cigar shop that we had to pass in order to reach the tasting room, we were also free to pick a cigar of our fancy from the full assortment. (more…)
Dalmore 16yo by The Maltman (Review)
If you are a regular reader of our blog, you might have recognized that I really appreciate whiskies matured or at least finished in sherry casks. Here we go with a 16 years old Dalmore from The Maltman. It spent most of its maturation time in a bourbon cask (more…)
Talisker Port Ruighe (Review)
In the 19th century, Scottish salesmen brought port wine from Portugal to Scotland. Very often, the ships that carried the port casks landed in Portree, which to this day is the largest town on the Isle of Skye. In ancient Gaelic, said town’s name is pronounced Port Ruighe. (more…)
The Glen Els Triple Port (Review)
One of the whiskies I like most is not made in Scotland or Ireland or even Japan. It is manufactured in the middle of Germany, in the beautiful low mountain range Harz. By now, you might have guessed that I am speaking of The Glen Els, which is produced at Hammerschmiede (more…)
Open Whisky Tasting and BBQ at Weinkellerei von Have (Event)
Last January I attended an open tasting at Hamburg-based winery Weinkellerei von Have. I enjoyed that evening so much that it was no question I also had to get a ticket to their open whisky tasting on the last weekend in June. While von Have already hosted several of these events before (more…)
Heaven Hill 14yo Caribbean Cask by M.O.S. (Review)
I have to admit that I have never occupied myself with whiskey from the United States that much. Of course, everyone knows Jack Daniel’s and its cheaper equivalents from supermarkets, but that is not what I am talking about. (more…)
Bunnahabhain 8yo by Provenance (Review)

For quite some time I turned a blind eye on the malts produced by Bunnahabhain Distillery for no specific reason. But then I read a review of a Bunnahabhain malt and from that moment on I knew I had to try it. Luckily, just a few days later I went to a whisky fair, (more…)
Master Class at Helgoheiner’s (Event)
There is no question that Helgoland, which is Germany’s only island in the open sea, is my favorite place in my entire homecountry. Not only is that red rock in the North Sea unbelievably beautiful, but it also makes you feel relaxed and chilled from the moment your feet touch its ground. (more…)
