I have to hurry a little with this review because my bottle of Talisker‘s wonderful Distillers Edition from two years back is slowly but surely coming to its end. Considering all the joy this precious dram from the Isle of Skye on the northwestern coast of Scotland gave me, I definitely want it to be featured here on BarleyMania before the final drop is poured. True to Talisker‘s catchy motto “Made by the Sea”, the Distillers Edition 2014 makes no secret of its island heritage. It is a weather-beaten, bathed-by-the-ocean Single Malt Scotch Whisky of impressive depth, width and quality. Personally, I especially enjoy the peppery finish, which is a little smoother here than it is in the wilder Talisker Storm or the beefier 57 North. While this particular version of the Distillers Edition spent 11 years in the cask (from 2003 to 2014), the follow-up bottlings from 2015 and 2016 were kept amidst wood for 10 years each. I have not had the chance to try any of them yet, but I am sure they are really good as well. After all, they are Taliskers…

Palate: A long-serving cargo boat with a hold full of ginger, oranges and dark chocolate.
Finish: Strong and lasting. Prominent pepper cuts through a thin cloud of smoke.
