If you are a regular visitor of this wee blog o’ mine, you might have noticed that The Scotch Malt Whisky Society got featured quite prominently on BarleyMania in the recent past. There are two reasons for this: First, I am tremendously enjoying my membership (more…)

“SMWS X ÜberQuell” Whisky & Craft Beer Tasting (Event)
Upon first glimpse, The Scotch Malt Whisky Society and ÜberQuell Brauwerkstätten do not seem to have too many similarities. One is a traditional independent bottler and high-profile whisky club from Edinburgh, Scotland. The other other is a young brewpub (more…)
Whisky Masterclass “120 Years” by Herr Lutz (Event)
When something good comes to a close, end it with a bang. And when something awesome is about to start, kick it off with an equal amount of hoo-ha! True to that motto, my first-ever whisky tasting by Herr Lutz could hardly have been any more special. (more…)
Distillery Tour & Tasting at Glen Moray (Tour)
The fine folks at Glen Moray say about themselves that they are “not your usual Speyside distillery”. And indeed, the wonderful experience they provide is everything but ordinary. Neither are their prices: The 60-minute tour including two complementary drams (more…)
The Six Pillars Tour at The Macallan Distillery (Tour)
“This spirit can restore you / It’s the finest I have seen / With my own eyes / With my own eyes,” sings whisky bard Robin Laing in his beautiful piece “Macallan” from the acclaimed “Whisky For Breakfast” album. While I have already seen the cherished Speyside distillery’s excellent product (more…)

“Talisker at Sea” Tasting on board the MS Kleine Freiheit (Event)
Talisker has the motto “Made by the sea” written in silver or gold on all of its bottles for a reason. After all, there is hardly another distillery in Scotland, whose product epitomizes the image of a maritime malt as perfectly as the fruity, peppery and peated whisky from the Isle of Skye.
